Memorial Wall

We remember the names of over 500 children who have lost their lives to gun violence in Miami Dade County since 1980.

“Project Safe Neighborhoods is a comprehensive, strategic approach to reducing gun violence in America. The various crime reduction initiatives in the past decade have taught us that to have a truly significant impact, the federal government must do more than just increase its arrest and prosecution numbers.”

Miami-Dade Project Safe Neighborhood Collaborative

Thirty-five agencies under the auspices of Weed & Seed have combined efforts to address the gun violence problem in Miami-Dade County. This community outreach initiative is taking place in phases, which include: (1) A comprehensive, multi-cultural media Campaign, (2) Memorial Wall Dedication, (3) Youth Prevention Activities (4), Inter-Faith Alliance, and (5) Assessment of Miami-Dade PSN Collaborative.

The key agencies spearheading this effort include: Miami/Miami-Dade Weed & Seed, Inc., Homestead/Florida City Weed & Seed, North Miami Beach Weed & Seed, State Attorney’s Office, City of Miami Mayor’s Office, , SHED Group Inc., Elijah Network Family and Community Alliance, Hosanna Community Foundation, Inc., and Institute for Development, Inc. Together, these agencies are addressing a myriad of issues that manifest when gun violence becomes an epidemic, as it has in Miami-Dade County. Additionally, this Collaborative focuses on a variety of activities designed to address the gun violence reduction effort.

As part of this the community outreach component, targeted activities are being organized in the North, Central and South sections of Miami-Dade County via the Weed & Seed county-wide network. The activities will include best practices for gun safety and gun violence prevention programs (i.e. life skills, employability training, and other effective prevention models). Through sustainable partnership with key governmental personnel, residents, businesses, and the overall Miami-Dade County community, a diverse multicultural gun violence education and prevention campaign has been developed. Strategies to address ex-offender re-entry in the community are currently underway and will be launched in addition to other Weed and Seed PSN initiatives.
